37 years ago, @Sir Tim Berners-Lee gave us the World Wide Web. Last week at MWC26, discussing that ethos with him reinforced exactly what our generation must build next. We are building a distributed nervous system for AI. The AI supercycle demands that network architecture evolves at software speed. At Nokia, we are moving this vision out of the lab and into the live network by transforming infrastructure into an intelligent, programmable platform that dynamically adapts to enterprise needs. Here are 3 live milestones from Barcelona proving this shift is real: 1️⃣ Programmable Monetization On the XPRO Stage, we announced the live integration of Nokia's Network as Code with Blocksport and Deutsche Telekom. By upgrading authentication for the Telekom Baskets Bonn app to network-native APIs, we demonstrated how network-driven identity and security capabilities are actual, billable assets, moving far beyond legacy SMS. 2️⃣ Agentic AI & The Glass Box Our Network as Code Agentic AI demos showcased what happens when autonomous systems (MCP & A2A) program the network in real-time. When AI is given the power to trigger network actions, its autonomy must remain inspectable, bounded, and reversible. This is Nokia's Glass Box imperative: the key to building trust in AI-driven networks. 3️⃣ AI-Native Developers Judging the GSMA Open Gateway Hackathon proved the developer ecosystem is moving at unprecedented speeds. By combining AI-assisted coding with Network APIs, developers are now treating the network not just as foundational connectivity, but as a programmable, software-defined platform. Building this distributed nervous system requires a world-class ecosystem. It was fantastic to connect with partners like GlobalLogic, while also catching up with the VIAVI Solutions team to reflect on our shared momentum in this AI supercycle. Beyond the technical architecture, joining a live-streamed interview on ’The Nest’ stage and exchanging ideas with innovators like @Steve Aoki reinforced a core truth: cross-disciplinary creativity accelerates technological breakthroughs. A massive thank you to Justin Hotard for his leadership, and to the brilliant Network as Code team at Nokia whose grit delivered these live capabilities. Sir Tim gave us the open web. We are building the AI-native infrastructure to ensure the next generation of connectivity remains just as accessible, collaborative, and transformative. 🌐🚀

The Network API economy is no longer just a vision. It is a commercial reality. When I first initiated the discussions to bring Blocksport into the Nokia ecosystem, I knew our combined vision could disrupt the industry. Today at MWC, I am proud to share that this strategic partnership has materialized. The commercially available Telekom Baskets Bonn app has officially integrated Nokia’s Network as Code ‘Number Verification API’ via Deutsche Telekom's network. By leveraging existing Deutsche Telekom's SIM capabilities, sports fans can now experience a frictionless login flow, making traditional passwords, SMS OTPs, and SSOs a thing of the past. Watch the video below to see what zero-friction looks like in action. This is a pivotal milestone for the industry: -For enterprises: customer apps gain advanced network capabilities with zero R&D heavy lifting, scaling seamlessly via our Network as Code platform. -For telcos: a bridge to multi-country API coverage, unlocking new, previously unrealized revenue streams from their network assets. -For users: uncompromised security without the waiting time. Seeing this commercial milestone go live perfectly complemented my day at the Talent Arena. I had the honor of serving on the jury for the GSMA Open Gateway Hackathon, where I also took the stage at the award ceremony to announce the winning teams. Witnessing developers push the boundaries of Network APIs with AI-native tools proves that we are rapidly bridging the gap from grassroots innovation to global commercial deployment. Thank you to the incredible Nokia-Blocksport team, Deutsche Telekom, and our wider ecosystem partners for making this a reality. The API-driven network evolution is here. Day 1 at Barcelona and MWC26 is in the books, and we still have 3 action-packed days to go! 🚀 I’ve put together a quick video recap of today's highlights, plus a teaser of where you can find me tomorrow (March 3). Check out the video below! 👇 Here’s a look at what went down today: 🧠 Agentic AI at the Nokia Booth: We are officially live with our public demos! I had the incredible opportunity to architect the backend (and post-event laptop-friendly front-end) solution for these use cases. They are powered by Nokia's Network as Code APIs and demonstrate real, dynamic agentic communication, using MCP and A2A concepts. 💻 Talent Arena: The energy at the GSMA Open Gateway Hackathon is electric. Proud to see this supported by Nokia, GSMA, Google Cloud, and Spanish telcos: Orange, Telefónica, and Vodafone, as developers push the boundaries of Network APIs. My role is to act as a mentor and judge, among other responsibilities. Nokia was part of a similar hackathon a year ago, and this time teams have started using all AI-native tools from chatbots to IDEs, from vibe coding to asking Network as Code-related questions to common chatbots. I'm seeing that this rapid transition will accelerate the quality of the final pitches and solutions drastically, as it has already freed up mentors to focus only on the most demanding questions. 🎙️ Live Interview: Had a great time sharing insights of the hackathon and AI development on "The Hive" stage. Link in the comments. 🎵 Epic Encounters: Capped off the day with a Meet & Greet and sharing insightful ideas with Steve Aoki! 👀 What’s coming up tomorrow (March 3)? If you are at Talent Arena, be sure to catch me at: 15:45 CET | Keynote: Join me and Vládimir Liúlka, CEO of Blocksport, at the XPRO Stage for "Level Up Your Apps: From Agent Protocols to Real-World API Innovation." 16:00 CET | Hackathon Live Finals: I'll be joining the jury to help evaluate the groundbreaking solutions our developers have built and attending the award ceremony. Happy New Year - Las Vegas calling 🇺🇸 Super excited to be walking the floor at CES 2026 this week! (I still remember following the news of the Nokia Lumia 900 launch here back in 2012. Standing here now, it’s inspiring to see how far we’ve come from connecting people to connecting intelligence.) This year, the buzz is clearly shifting towards Physical AI and intelligent transformation. But here is the key takeaway for us in the infrastructure space: None of these AI agents or immersive experiences can scale easily without a network that adapts to them. At Nokia, we are connecting intelligence. Whether it's ensuring low latency for industrial robotics or exposing network APIs for the next killer app, the intersection of AI and Nokia Network as Code is where the magic happens. I’m here to connect with partners, developers, and innovators who are ready to build on top of the network, not just run over it. If you are in Vegas, let's grab a coffee and talk ecosystems! ☕️👇

We are moving from connecting people to connecting intelligence. At our recent Capital Markets Day, our CEO Justin Hotard defined the next era of Nokia as "Connecting Intelligence." But what does that actually look like in code? For decades, the industry built networks for humans who could tolerate a buffering wheel. Now, we are building for Agentic AI – autonomous systems that negotiate their own latency in real-time. In the clip below, I define this shift. But the real question is: How do we build infrastructure that lets software agents "negotiate" connectivity? I’ve linked the full recording of my keynote where I demonstrate this live, putting the Agentic AI vision Pallavi Mahajan outlined into practice. We walk through a real-world scenario using Nokia Network as Code, showing: 1️⃣ The trigger: An autonomous agent detects a threat. 2️⃣ The negotiation: The agent programmatically requests "Quality on Demand" and "Edge Routing". 3️⃣ The result: Latency drops from 1000ms to 200ms instantly – only when needed. This isn't about hardware: it's about the application layer finally orchestrating the network layer. If you want to see the code and the latency logs in action, watch the full session here: 👇 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmhlclo1VM4&t=1333s

We are moving from human-centric to agent-centric networks. Is your infrastructure ready? I’m speaking at Understanding Latency (hosted by CUJO AI®) about a massive shift in how we view connectivity: "When AI controls the network: Latency as a programmable asset" While protocols like L4S and Network APIs provide the pipeline, the real question is how applications dynamically access it. I’ll be exploring: 🚀 The shift toward AI-native networks. 🤖 How AI Agents are autonomously negotiating network performance. 🛠️ How developers are "programming" latency with Nokia Network as Code. Join me on December 15th to see how latency is becoming a programmable asset. 👇 https://understandinglatency.com/

This isn't just a picture of a robot. It represents the exact use case for AI-RAN. A robot like this from Autonomous Units is already incredibly smart, using its own onboard intelligence for navigation. But the question we asked was: "What if we could give it network-level superpowers?" What if it could "see" around a corner using 100 other cameras, fed to it in milliseconds via the 5G edge? What if it could get a real-time command (like in my GTC drone demo) from an AI running in the network? This is the "immediacy-as-a-service" I've been talking about. But how does it really work? What's the real business model? And how do we solve the hard operational questions? The expert debate on my last article was incredible. In this new article, I'm answering all the tough, operational questions from Jose L Gil, Dean Bubley, Joe Madden, Andrzej Miłkowski, and the other experts who jumped in. PS: This theme of leading complex, multi-partner ecoystems is what I do. Skepticism on AI-RAN is high. Many, like Andy Jones, rightly remember the failed promises of edge computing. They're 100% correct - the old economics never worked. But this time is different. We didn't just add a new, expensive box; we replaced the network's very engine. I’ve been hands-on with this hardware for years (as you'll see in the article). This isn't just a press release; it's a fundamental architectural shift that finally solves the 15-year economic logjam. In this article, I break down: • Why this isn't MEC 2.0 • How we provide a new choice (GPU-based) vs. the ASIC-only model • How we solve the "spiky demand" problem • Why this is the start of a new, sustainable network economy Here's why this is the change we've been waiting for.

💥 The Future of AI is Here. And It's at the Edge. The news is out: Nokia and NVIDIA are launching a strategic partnership. And it's a big one: backed by a $1 billion investment from NVIDIA to pioneer the AI-RAN. Our CEOs, Justin Hotard and Jensen Huang, have laid out the grand vision: a fundamental redesign of the network to deliver AI-powered connectivity. But what does this AI-native future actually look like, right now? 👇 That’s exactly what I’m demonstrating LIVE here at NVIDIA GTC DC. 🇺🇸 We're bridging the gap from this monumental press release to a tangible, working reality with below storyline. • • • THE PROBLEM: LATENCY vs. PRECISION Think about real-time AI. For critical tasks like public safety or industrial automation, you face an impossible trade-off: ➡️ Run high-cost, high-bandwidth, low-latency AI 24/7, just in case? ➡️ Run low-cost, low-bandwidth, high-latency AI in the cloud and risk missing a threat due to latency? What if you could have BOTH? • • • THE SOLUTION: AN AI DATA CENTER IN EVERY 5G BASE STATION This is the game-changer. By putting NVIDIA GPUs (GH200 Superchip) inside Nokia’s 5G radios ("AI and RAN"), we can create a new marketplace for ultra-low-latency AI. Using our Nokia Network as Code platform, any developer can program the mobile network to react INSTANTLY, accessing on-demand GPU power exactly when and where it's needed. • • • SEE IT LIVE: THE DRONE DEMO This isn't a PowerPoint slide. It’s my live demo on the GTC show floor, showing this "precision-on-demand" loop in action, in a real, live 5G network. We're running a visual threat detection use case. Here’s the flow: 1️⃣ EFFICIENT MODE: The system runs continuous, low-cost detection in the cloud, scanning for threats. 2️⃣ THREAT SUSPECTED: A drone enters the scene. The moment the cloud AI suspects a UAV, an AI agent instantly triggers two Nokia Network as Code API calls ("AI on RAN"). 3️⃣ THE SWITCH (in milliseconds): ► QoD (Quality on Demand): The first API boosts the 5G camera stream's priority and throughput. ► Edge Routing: The second API immediately shifts that high-res feed from the distant cloud to the NVIDIA GPU sitting right here in the 5G radio. 4️⃣ THE RESULT: The powerful Edge AI performs precise, in-network inference. It confirms the threat is a UAV (not a false alarm like a bird) and triggers the alert. Once the threat is gone, the network automatically switches back to its efficient cloud mode. This is the future: ✅ For enterprises: Faster, safer decisions. ✅ For operators: It turns their radio access networks into a monetizable AI platform. And the best part? The entire enteprise demo - from the front-end UI to trigger the back-end Network as Code API calls - was built for me 100% by an AI chatbot. We are using AI to demonstrate the infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI. The AI-native era isn't just coming. It’s here, and we are building it today. Come see it for yourself at the Nokia booth!

Greetings from Lisbon, Portugal! 🇵🇹 We are just starting the final day of the Nokia Core User Group 2025. This year, I've been presenting to our customers how Network as Code can provide an additional layer of security in fraud detection. Proud to present these live demos with Portuguese operators NOS and MEO to concretize the value a multi-operator solution brings to enterprises. Yesterday, Shkumbin Hamiti delivered a keynote titled "Searching for 'API'ness", in which we also provided two live demos: a Google Gemini AI chatbot creating a Python code to run SIM Swap API for MEO and NOS devices, and an audience demo where anyone could try to log in to a bank with stolen credentials on their phones, but were stopped as the Number Verification API checked that none of the audience's phones had a SIM card matching the phone number of the stolen credentials account holder. If you are attending to CUG and haven't seen the demos yet, you still have today to experience them!

Unbreakable Connectivity Hackathon - taking the ideas even further. Last week we wrapped up an incredible hackathon at Nokia Headquarters in Espoo, Finland. Together, we and Telia invited 12 talented hackathon teams to take the Nokia Network as Code platform out of the lab and into real-world applications. Over an intense 48 hours, spanning three days, these teams poured their creativity and energy into building, testing, and pitching solutions with the platform. We had two dozen Telia 5G SIM cards in action, connected to phones, RC cars, and even drones—it was a playground for innovation. The event was supported by a dedicated team of mentors—9 in total, with 4 from Nokia and 5 from Telia—providing over 100 hours of mentorship during the event days. Personally, I was thrilled to spend over 15 hours working with the teams, helping them refine their ideas and bring them to life with real tests and compelling pitches. It was a first-of-its-kind opportunity for these teams to work hands-on with the Network as Code platform, and they exceeded expectations brilliantly. A big shoutout to Ultrahack as well—having seen the results of previous collaborations, I knew we needed them to be part of this journey. And they delivered, helping us make this hackathon an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. After all the hard work, the winning team along four runner-up teams were selected by a joint Telia-Nokia jury. These teams showcased groundbreaking innovations, from MOD5G's Modbus protocol over 5G and Marinify's AI-driven worker safety to 5G ACR's teleoperated cranes, Unishopper's secure mobile self-checkout, and NetFly's reliable drone management platform. The level of innovation and quality of the solutions made it us tough to choose, but that’s exactly what you hope for from an event like this. Thank you to everyone who made this hackathon possible—from the participants to the mentors, and the partners who shared in our vision. It’s been amazing to see how far we can push the boundaries when we let great minds explore the power of Network as Code. To the participants: your creativity and dedication continue to inspire. Here’s to taking these ideas even further! Mentors Star Team: Nokia: Aleksi Puranen, Sami Lahtinen, Pavel Garmuyev, me Telia: Markus Heikkilä, Juho Saari, Miro Saarenmaa, Arttu Rantala, Lepola Marko

Nokia Bell Labs, one of the most prestigious research facilities and the inventor of transistors, lasers, C-based programming languages, and holder of multiple Nobel prizes among other innovations crucial to our life, has honored me with the lifetime and widely recognized technical recognition and title “Distinguished Member of Technical Staff” (DMTS). DMTS at Bell Labs has a long history, tracing its roots back to the time when the internet and mobile phones were not yet widespread, and news of this nature was primarily spread by word to mouth. While my public work can only showcase the tip of the iceberg of my career, it has encompassed a broad range of personal technical R&D contributions that have clearly influenced business, senior management, and customer outcomes and directions. Often, these contributions cannot be openly discussed due to the nature of the topics. Therefore, I feel the DMTS designation acts as a representation for these contributions in the public domain. Today, being recognized with the Nokia DMTS award feels incredibly rewarding and represents a significant milestone in my career. While I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the new DMTS award recipients, I think it’s now time to celebrate this remarkable achievement and wait for the physical plaque to arrive!

Delighted to share the latest demonstration at Nokia Arena: We showed how Nokia’s Network as Code “Device Location” capability enhances the Immersal Visual Positioning System in Elisa’s 5G network. Last Fall, Nokia and Immersal created an AR mobile app for visitors to the Nokia Radio World event. Now, Immersal has integrated NaC’s Device Location capability into the app to demonstrate how it can enable better device positioning experience. As a result, we demonstrate how NaC’s Device Location capability can address the challenges of positioning devices in large spaces, such as the 50,000 m2 Nokia Arena, which is seven times the area of a standard football field. As always, it’s very rewarding to lead and introduce new capabilities and use cases for demonstration. Special thanks to Immersal and Elisa for collaborating already over the past two years at Nokia Arena! 💥 Additional info: #NokiaRadioWorld AR app demonstration: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7105164330811240448/ Immersal-Nokia Press Release (2023): https://hexagon.com/company/newsroom/press-releases/2023/immersal-visual-positioning-system-creates-ar-experiences-on-top-of-nokia-5g-network-at-nokia-arena

🌲 A Blast from the Past: The Legacy of My Great-Grandfather at Nokia 🐴 As I soon celebrate my 4-year anniversary at Nokia, I wanted to share a fascinating story about my great-grandfather, Toivo, who worked for Nokia's forestry division in the late 1940s and 1950s in Finland. His dedication and hard work contributed to the success of the Tampere region factory, which is not only close to Pihlajavesi, a town where Toivo lived and worked but also near the birthplace of Nokia itself. His story continues to inspire us all. Toivo began his days early, heading into the forests surrounding his Riihimäki farm with his trusted horse and sleigh. In addition to being a farmer, he worked as a teamster ("ajomies") for Nokia, picking and transporting logs from Nokia-owned forests to the locations where trucks would be loaded with the wood for transport. Toivo was one of a few workers in his region who had the opportunity to work as a teamster for Nokia at that time. Despite facing significant challenges earlier in his life, Toivo remained resilient and hardworking. He experienced a life-changing injury during his service in the war, where he operated as a light machine gunner/loader. He lost two fingers to a grenade fragment and was close to death when his hand became infected in the unsanitary frontline conditions. Fortunately, he received medical care at Hatanpää Hospital in Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere, which marked the beginning of his recovery. Toivo's tenacity and work ethic, along with the efforts of countless other men and women, helped build Finland into the thriving welfare state it is today. In the attached photo, you can see Toivo during his younger years. It's amazing to think about the challenges he overcame and the legacy he left behind. Now, 70 years after Toivo's work journey began at Nokia, I find myself working at the same company, closing the circle and continuing the family legacy. It is a testament to the unyielding spirit and the strong values that have built and sustained Nokia throughout the years. As I continue my journey at Nokia, I feel honored to follow in Toivo's footsteps and be part of a company that values hard work and determination. Let's carry on this legacy and strive for excellence in everything we do! 💪🏼 Do you have any inspiring family stories that connect you to your workplace? Share them in the comments!👇🏼 #teamnokia

Yesterday was a memorable day when a small group of people experienced Andrea Bocelli's concert at Nokia Arena as a world-class virtual concert through 5G and VR technology in Elisa Showroom in Helsinki. Grateful for the incredible work of my Nokia colleagues and Elisa, Kepit Systems Oy, and Wakeone professionals who collaborated to make this real. I feel that this groundbreaking virtual concert experience demonstrates that the only limit for immersive event experiences is our imagination. 🚀 Read the press release here: https://elisa.com/corporate/news-room/press-releases/world-class-concert-experience-in-finland-%E2%80%93-remote-audience-takes-part-in-andrea-bocelli-concert-at-nokia-arena-through-5g-network-and-vr/54130846907135/

As the year comes to a close, I think it's a good time to take a moment and reflect on the events that took place at Nokia Arena this year from my perspective. There were three major events that stood out to me: 1. In June, we demonstrated the Nokia Arena VR live demo utilizing the 5G mmW network at the Tampere Smart City Week. 2. Also in June, we achieved record-breaking 2 Gbps uplink speeds using 5G mmW at the Arena. 3. In September-October, we were involved in organizing the first ever XR + 5G mmW hackathon at the Arena. One key takeaway from these events is the importance of collaboration. This year has shown that partnering with other companies can often help us achieve outcomes that go beyond what a single company is capable of on its own. Looking ahead to 2023 and beyond, I see the Nokia Arena as a place of endless possibilities. Check out these videos to hear what others have envisioned for the future of the Arena! As we approach the end of the year, I would like to thank all of the individuals from below companies who were interviewed for these videos and all who have been working with me during this year. Wishing everyone a happy and successful new year! 💥 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTruj61zut8&feature=youtu.be https://youtu.be/qeLgd8p37YY Nokia Nokia Arena Elisa Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere Valve Futurice Akun Tehdas - Oy Aku's Factory Ltd

Grade: 💯/💯 The story of Nokia Arena as the home of cutting edge technologies and solutions continue - Now we made 2.1 Gbit/s uplink World Record with Arena's Nokia 5G mmWave network! 🥇 The same mmWaves are our backbone for multimedia showcases at Nokia Arena. 🔗 2.1 Gbits equal 2 100 000 000 bits. Just think for a _second_ how many bits needs to be transferred all through air in the right order and fully wirelessly. Every. Single. Second. Can your fiber connection even catch these uplink speeds? 🚀 World Record proudly owned by Nokia, Elisa, and Qualcomm.

What a start of the week! Yesterday I was presenting to Tommi Uitto and Petri Ahokas what plans there are for Nokia Arena during this year. I see innovation plays an important role at Nokia, and Nokia Arena as Europe's leading multifunctional sport, business and entertainment venue has all the capabilities to be a home for that innovation.

🚀 Exactly three years ago, I arrived to Nokia’s Tampere office lobby, being ready to start my new journey there. Timo Vesterinen had headhunted me a moment ago and that day he started introducing me to the Nokia and its community. What a three years it has already been at Nokia! Getting hundreds of new colleagues, working in super exciting projects with talented people. Innovating and making almost impossible things to possible. Not to forget to provide help whenever needed and giving thanks to the people who have helped me. 🙏🏻 Last addition to Nokia crew was Ville Juutilainen who started just a moment ago in Nokia Arena Innovation Project. Time really flies and I am starting to question how long I can say that I started just a moment ago at Nokia. Maybe not yet, but happy to have you Ville on board! 👏🏻

What does "being open" mean to me? Read it from the picture. 👇 Yesterday my colleague Juhani Kanerva noticed me by emphasizing openness in my daily work. This felt heart warming - doesn't it always motivate to do the work when somebody gives this kind of thanks! Want to be part of #TeamNokia and work with empowering and inspiring people?
